Demystify the art of printing and learn the basics of printing using a silkscreen. You’ll design and print your own simple stencil image as well as print with a selection of images from our pre-made screens. The processes of how to burn (getting a permanent image on a screen) and how to build your own DIY screen-printing press at home on a budget will be explained.
We’ll explore design, composition, water-based inks, drying methods, layered printing as well as fabric and paper mediums. You’ll take home a complete resource list for supplies, instruction book, squeegee, ink sample and your own screen so you can keep printing at home.
After this class you’ll be able to print everything from your own stationary, paper goods or frame-able artwork to t-shirts and clothing. We'll end the session with Q & A with Random Nicole to answer all your questions on printing, running/starting a t-shirt line and more.
Course Materials List/Kit Fee ($29, due to Nicole day of workshop):
-please bring: textiles to print on (t-shirts, tea towels, fabric, totebags etc...) & paper to print on (blank cards, stationary, blank books, card stock etc...)
-we provide: a selection of water-based inks and a sample for you to take home, a blank silkscreen (your to take home), a squeegee (yours to take home), all the tools, templates and stencils to use and inspire and pre-burned screens.

About Nicole

While attending graduate school for creative writing in San Francisco, Nicole started painting. After her first art show sold out, she headed down to Los Angeles to make a go of it as an artist. Her new artistic path led her from selling paintings on the boardwalk at Venice Beach to having her art showcased in over 20 art shows in California as well as co-founding G.A.S.- a organization that raised funds for charities through art events and hosted group art shows in Southern California.
She made the switch to wearable art, creating Random Nicole, her line of art-inspired clothing for men, women & children, which was carried at over 250 locations worldwide and has been featured in over 40 publications including Squeeze OC, Riviera Magazine, PaperCrafts Magazine, CraftStylish, NBC & Daily Candy.
Nicole owned the indie boutique and diy workshop space The Craft Kitchen which she closed to move back to the bay area in 2010. In 2006 she co-founded Patchwork Indie Art & Craft Festival with her aunt Delilah Snell. Nicole also co-produces Craftcation: Indie Business & DIY Craft Conference.
Nicole divides her time between producing Patchwork & Craftcation, designing and making creations for Random Nicole, teaching DIY workshops, small business consulting, creating custom designs & illustrations and working on her MFA. She holds a BA and MA in creative writing and is currently working on a non-fiction book about her crafty adventures. Nicole’s strong convictions to accessible affordable art are prominent in all her ventures.
